What's New at Moondance
Same Moondance, brand new look!
In the Spring on 1996, while the World Wide Web was still in it's infancy, a group of women found each other through the meandering paths of cyberspace. They explored within themselves and within each other a few common ideals. Among them was the idea that women need not be told how "defective" they are; after all, women are capable of so much creativity, and the objects of such fascination that they have forever been at the center of al great stories.
Some of these women volunteered to create an electronic magazine, free of advertisement, where women could read and share ideas that would enhance their lives.
Interestingly, the idea was fresh, exciting and new enough to attract not only women, but plenty of men who shared those ideals. Their presence enriched the fledgling project.
At the beginning, there were actually two, intertwined projects: WAWI (Women Artists and Writers International), which was and continues to be open to all women, and Moondance, which began life as an extension of the WAWI project.
Today, WAWI is still an active group of peoples from all across the globe who exchange ideas and explores what it means to be an artist, a writer, a woman, a human being.
As for Moondance, it continues to enrich the lives of women and men alike, 10 years later. First published in September 1996, it now reaches an audience of over 360 000 per month, on average, from around the world.
Even our staff has taken on an increasingly international flavor. We are proud of our volunteers, whether they be from South Africa or Canada, Germany or the United States.
