Fall Guy starts with a particularly messy ending for one Milton Ryce when his parachute fails to open when it ought. Detective Inspector Carol Ashton must find out who tampered with the dead man's equipment, and she finds herself in no short supply of likely suspects. Ryce made far fewer friends than he ever did enemies, it seems. Not even his wife and daughter appear particularly sorry to see the last of him!

The story traces through the motives and alibis of the many people that Milton Ryce went out of his way to humiliate in public or threaten in private. And into this narrative, McNab weaves strands of her detective's personal life and problematic love relationship. All the right ingredients for the making of a satisfying read, and just right for a quick fiction fix of my favourite genre when I'm in need of one.

Claire McNab writes fast-paced mystery stories. Lots of them. This book clocks in as number sixteen of her Carol Ashton series and if you like to follow the adventures of one character and grow to know her through a series of books, you'll enjoy dipping into more of McNab's booklist. She sets her tales in her native Australia and infuses them with a strong flavour of the country. Another of her series features a gorgeous blonde Australian Intelligence Organisation agent and the third, a Private Eye. Three strong and sassy women and McNab writes the stories of their adventurous lives faster than I can ever keep up with tho' I'm certainly enjoying the attempt :-)

Google 'Moira Richards' to find links to her essays on Women Abuse, her reviews of woman-authored books as well as to other writing and editing work she does for various print and e-publications. She can often be found lounging about the staff rooms ofwomenwriters.net, absolutewrite.com and moondance.org - usually sipping tea, sometimes Jack Daniels.

Off-line, she teaches accounting and other numberly subjects to students at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in South Africa. And writes a poem or two.
