Covering your skin in poetry, tracing with my
finger
the figures needed to preserve my thoughts
'til daybreak illumines pad and pencil.
All the dark hours I continue creating without waking you,
covering your back with poetry etched in light,
saving in memory and skin the warm thoughts of the shared night.
At dawn you stretch and rise and I reach for the paper
to recreate what even now you are washing unseen from your skin,
vowels racing down the drain.
