Continuum
by Frost Newton
Gently blow your breath,
A warm vapor
For the cold night's moon.
Feel the lilt of
Grandfather's laughter
Skating across the river.
Hear the cattle's muffled moan
And hungry, restless shifting
As we wade toward the barns
Banked high with snow,

Cooing, "Oh Bossy, Oh Bossy,
Oh Bossy, Oh…"
Swing wide the red door and light up the stalls.
Scoop sweet-smelling feed
From rough, burlap sacks.
Hay down and water,
Watch the slow chewing.
Breathe easy in the stillness
Before we turn to go.

Now join me in the farmhouse
For a rest in the kitchen.
You take the cot
With Sailor at your feet.
I'll stoke the fire and
Put on the kettle,
Then rock for awhile
To a tune of the radio--
Crocheting Grandmother's lessons
Of fine lace
And peace.

Bio: Barbara J. Gill is a Canadian registered nurse who has been writing for over forty-five years (she wrote her first poem at age six) and in more recent years has incorporated visual arts creatively. She also had her own company during the 80's and 90's and offered services as a professional organizer throughout Canada and the United States of America. A publisher recently invited her to submit a book-length manuscript which represents a life work; a philosophy for living involving visualization, which she developed when dealing with a rare cancer of the leg years ago. Barbara’s poetry and prose has been published in the USA and Canada.
