[DREAM JERUSALEM]

"Two Nations in Thy Womb"
by Igor Ulanovsky

You dream Jerusalem, I only know
too much of wheelchairs to forget pharaoh.
You taste Kiddush cup, Grail's goblet;
I gulp dawn's coffee with a rushed doughnut
or have a hamburger with cheap Bordeaux.

You touch Jerusalem beyond credo,
your hands and arms, slow muscles kneading dough.
I seek a sign, waste time, consult comets;
you dream Jerusalem.

Below the earth in a secret grotto
you sing Jerusalem with soft cello.
I trumpet echoes to your strong song; cut
your God-sky to a window: when shut,
I can play prophet to no end although
you dream Jerusalem.

(first published in "The NeoVictorian / Cochlea")
