the net is broken
no golden fish
no golden sheep
no golden eagles

the net is broken
the ship is sunken
grasping hands and broken eyes
down down in deep waters

no more hands of sunshine
no more eyes of bread and salt
the ship is broken
the net is sunken

just a golden feather
just a golden hair
just a golden scale
is all I can bring to you

[Spirit Lagoon by Diana Alexander]
"Spirit Lagoon" by Diana Alexander

Silke Liria Blumbach is 30, German, a breast cancer survivor and a translator at the Army. She is the only foreign member of the Albanian Writers' Association with one Albanian-language poem published in Albania and another one awaiting print. Silke is especially interested in Albanian spirituality, which is reflected in her poetry. Albanians are the "people most crazy about eagles" she knows. The importance of the Eagle to Albanians can perhaps be compared with that of Native Americans. The "golden sheep" are said to be the sheep of the sun god Apollo grazing in Southern Albania. "Bread and salt" is an allusion to "Bread and salt and heart," the proverbial ingredients of the overwhelming Albanian hospitality.
