of Creative Women

Call Me Woman
by Jamie Joy Gatto

"If my mother is like the beautiful daisy, and I am her daughter, then call me her promising seed. And if my mother is like the fan, and I am her offspring, then call me her soothing wind. Let me be the cool air that sails from her sharp, untouchable blades. Call me free. Call me alive. Call me a woman."

Zarina's Castle
by Christina Jordan

"At the bottom of Kampala's Kololo Hill, where I live, there is a densely populated slum area, where tiny brown-plastered, unpainted buildings lean against each other in the mud, and where our family's housekeeper, Zarina, lived when we first met her."

Empowering Chicks
by Christina Jordan

"Two hundred egg laying hens sit barely able to move in the tiny space. Another space - empty, just next door - is where her husband will raise his own chicks, since Josephine has already shown him just how profitable they can be. "Will you work together and share resources like food for the chicks?" I ask. "Oh no. No, no, no. In Uganda, a woman has to protect herself," she tells me. "He might take the money I need to repay the loan."

Human Beings in the Mirror of the Universe
by Michael Levy

"When we live as a unified force in a structured society there is no conflict or confusion. When we act solely in an egotistical manner our power base explodes into haphazard actions and destroys. In this form life has little or no meaning."
