Campfire Meditation
by Bernadette
L. Wagner
our fire crackles
your kindling licks
my split logs the coffee
bubbles in a blackened pot
power of fire
to soothe a day of
wicked wind still blowing
acrid thoughts
tensions of twice-yearly
visits, of the decades
between us melt
like snow in july
we sip our hot coffee spitting
grounds to the grass and I wonder
will you be here next year
