Plover She is watching the waves made from her hands, fingers, and arms weaving back and forth in endless rushes, and she is willingly lost in that sound. Surely, she must be lost to that sight, never wanting to return. Too Fat, Blemished, Undesirable? What a Lie! It isn't an accident that we are inundated with media attitudes of how an attractive woman should look, or that the standard is set so high as to be unachievable. When we try, we expand enormous energy in a wasted pursuit. If we do manage to achieve one of the standards, it is at tremendous emotional and physical cost. Ego & Creativity One sense of the word "ego" is distorted self-regard, what psychologist Carl Jung referred to as "inflated consciousness... hypnotized by itself." Many creative people recognize the need to modulate this kind of ego in order to facilitate the creative process. Responding to a magazine poll question "What kills creativity?" actress Gillian Anderson ("The X-Files") replied succinctly, "Ego."
