The Rainbow Trout

Christina-Marie

Wait.
Diamond woman stands at the open gate
bait in her hand.
She has caught a silver stream
in fish hanging from her line
but water ebbs away
dripping
like white sand from her eyes
leaving her a glass
stained
empty on the counter
unwashed
untidy
marked with oil of
fish cleaning hands.
The towel won't erase
greasy tears
and she waits
unable to contain the stream.
